Life Skills and Financial Education
MLC VANGUARD | Created by Aflatoun International
Aflatoun empowers millions of children and young people (both in & out of school) with social, financial & entrepreneurial skills so they become agents of their own future. Aflatoun applies the flexible, low cost/high impact Social Franchise model, which facilitates strong South-South cooperation, and builds resilience amongst children and youth.
5,600,000 Lives Impacted
In order to ensure long-lasting and sustainable solutions, the Aflatoun programmes provide social & financial education for children and young people in both formal & non-formal settings. Children are inspired to discover their talents & put them to use, to stand up for their rights and those of their communities, and to tackle societal problems. They learn how to save, how to budget and how to set up social and financial enterprises that benefit themselves and their communities.
For example, in Cameroon, Aflatoun works with the Zenü Network organising after school clubs in 168 schools reaching 8464 students. These clubs organise activities around life skills, responsible resource management (21st Century Skills). Building on this experience, Aflatoun works with the Ministry of Secondary Education and Teacher Trade Unions to integrate life skills and financial education into the national curriculum, expecting to reach 350,000 annually.
In the Philippines, Aflatoun works with the National Confederation of Cooperatives building the capacity of more than 500 local cooperatives and 3000 schools rolling-out social & financial education, reaching more than 500,000 children. A tripatriate agreement between the Department of Education, NATCCO and Aflatoun, this collaboration aims to integrate concepts of life skills and financial education into the national curricula in the Philippines.
